On this date in 1853 was born Vincent van Gogh.
He is the example of a damned artist, an artist who lives his life in moments of anguish and euphoria. It is said that he cut off his ear in a moment of madness, but according to a report in Le Petit Journal, he gave actually a part of the lobe to a prostitute. But no one knows if it was to cut him or someone else.
He was the author of no less than 864 paintings and more than one thousand drawings over the numerous sketches started and not completed more different notes probably intended imitation of artistic designs from Japan. Van Gogh began drawing when he was a child, but only he began painting at twenty-seven. His subjects consisted of portraits, landscapes, still lifes of flowers, painted with cypresses, representation of wheat fields and sunflowers. His training must the example of realism landscape painters of Barbizon and the ethical and social message of Jean-François Millet.
Van Gogh, during his life, he painted many portraits: between 1886 and 1889 represented himself as many as 37 times, but maybe there are some photographs of him.
