Did you happen to buy a book affected by its cover? Well, I do! I bought “The Mistress of Spices” just for the cover. For more I saw the title and I thought I’d like to read something where food mattered.

“The Mistress of Spices” is a novel by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni of 1997. This novel tells the story of an Indian woman, Tilo, who lives in his spice shop. The spices are her life and because of them manages to help her clients and friends. The spices aren’t only medicine, but potions. The results are amazing!

This choice of a life dedicated to helping people forced her to look older and physically unattractive. However, she will bump into Raven, whom he fall in love. Tilo will be found in the balance between her work and her love affair, because she knows that if she yields to love, most likely die. So Tilo is virtually decide her death.

The story is very troubled, but fluid. The narrative isn’t banal and combines a good pinch of imaginary with a great love story that  isn’t simple. However, the book doesn’t fully won me over. Rating: 6½
